Dutch Flowers & Queensday 2010

Hyacinths, Tulips & Bikes - and - QUEENSDAY!!!

One of the most famous places in Holland is "De Keukenhof". Here you can find all kinds of flowers in a beautiful setting and is a tourist highlight. We, however, did not go in the Keukenhof, but decided to rent bikes and see all the surrounding flower fields. Starting at the Keukenhof and passing places like Lisse and Noordwijkerhout we cycled over 40km. It was awesome!

And last weekend was the most important day of the year... QUEENSDAY!!! If there is one day I would recommend to all foreigners to experience in the Netherlands it is that day. For some reason the weather is always good, people are happy, "everything" is allowed and most important Holland turns orange!!
This year we spend the night before in Utrecht. Unfortunately it started raining and that made it a bit less fun, but we nevertheless had a good laugh!

The day itself we spent in Amsterdam. Starting out at our house (next to the Vondelpark) we invited a bunch of friends over, who in turn invited some of their friends... add a BBQ, beer/mimosa-pong, orange outfits and some dance music to this and you are guaranteed to have a blast!

After a while we decided it was time to head into town! Turning right into the Vondelpark we walked towards the Museumplein where the massive crowds gathered to check out the free Radio 538 concert. Spend a couple of hours there and - as is normal - at 22.00 the festivities ended and everyone starts going home again entirely satisfied after a day of Orangeness :-)
Bonne had an "interesting" encounter with Princess Maxima...

Just a couple of people gathered at Museumplein...

And of course we were there as well... :-)

That's all for now... But let me end with something I think is totally awesome: I bought a brand-new motorcycle. A Triumph Street Triple R!!! Small pre-birthday gift to myself... In two weeks I can pick it up from the shop and then I will put up some pictures as well!

Talk to you later!
